Zipporah, right, with fellow tailor

Last spring we introduced you to Zipporah, one of our tailors in Nairobi who has been in the business for over a decade. Zipporah attended the second annual Tailors Gathering, held last week. This event is put on by Dignitas and tailors from across the city came together to reflect on the projects completed this year for our partnership. As we shared the numbers, they realized that whether they had sewn 200 uniforms or 1,000, together they had helped deliver thousands of uniforms and opened doors to education for the next generation of learners.

This annual gathering is a space to celebrate what has been achieved, reflect on the year, share feedback and lessons, and plan for what comes next. For many tailors, simply being invited into that space is a highlight in itself,  to sit with peers, to dream, and to shape the future of the work together as partners.

“With the help of TFE and the work they gave me, I was able to purchase a heat press machine, whereby I have expanded my business, nowadays I do tee shirt branding, so it’s quite an achievement for me. I have been yearning for this opportunity since I had trained for it, and I am so happy for TFE for giving me this opportunity to grow my business.”

In 2024 Zipporah made uniforms for two schools totaling 325 students and two schools again this year but an increase to 397 students. We’re grateful to have a skilled tailor as part of our workforce, knowing that her dedication helps put children in classrooms and sets them on the path toward a brighter future!
