Stitches of Success: Zipporah’s Story

Zipporah has been a tailor for over ten years. She chose tailoring as her profession, training in both men’s clothing and interior design. After working at an interior design company for two years, she took a bold step and opened her own business, TZippKallah Creations, named after herself and her two daughters.

We love hearing the journeys our tailors have taken to settle into their careers. For Zipporah, being a tailor is not just a job, it is her passion. “Sewing to me is like therapy,” she shares. “When I’m sewing, my full focus is on that garment, making sure I don’t miss a single detail. From cutting to creating each piece for different body shapes, it’s fulfilling to see someone with perfectly fitting clothes. Tailoring speaks to me. It inspires me to work today and the next day.”

Seeing an opportunity in the uniform market, Zipporah decided to specialize in school uniforms, recognizing a need for higher-quality options. “I saw a gap in the community,” she says. “Students needed uniforms each year, but the ones available didn’t match the quality parents were paying for. So, I thought I could fill that gap. I enjoy this journey because I love seeing kids looking smart.”

Zipporah set up shop in Pipeline, an area she’s called home since 2004, where she moved to attend college. She has seen the community’s growth and development over the years and feels a deep connection to it. With many families struggling to make ends meet, seeing children well-dressed and ready for school brings her a sense of purpose. “The work you are doing providing uniforms gives me hope,” she explains. “It shows that someone out there is thinking about the children and giving them a chance to learn and grow. It’s uplifting, especially for the students who don’t have any uniforms.”

She also wants to break down misconceptions about tailoring as a profession. Some view it as a fallback career for those who missed other opportunities, but Zipporah reminds us, “Tailoring is my dream job. I’m living my purpose, and you can be a professional tailor who loves every bit of the work like me.” Working on this project, where she was trusted to supply uniforms to an entire school has been a milestone. “I was honored to be given such a huge responsibility. This is my first time focusing on an entire school, and I look forward to more opportunities like this in the future. All I can say is a very big thank you!”

This International Women’s Day, we celebrate women like Zipporah, who are making a lasting impact in their communities. From naming her shop after her daughters to providing quality uniforms for local children, Zipporah inspires both her family and those around her with her courage and dedication. Women often face barriers to accessing the resources and financing needed to start their own businesses. That is why we are committed to partnering with local tailors like Zipporah, women whose talent and hard work light the path toward a brighter future for all. Through these partnerships, we are supporting progress toward Goal 8 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Decent Work and Economic Growth, helping create more equitable opportunities for women everywhere.
