Stitches of Success: Tailors Gathering

Our mission is to increase school enrolment and create economic opportunity by providing the world’s most vulnerable children with locally made school uniforms. Each project we support not only ensures that more children have access to education but also creates job opportunities within the local communities. A crucial part of making this goal a reality is the local tailors. Our partners work with a diverse group of local tailors to measure students’ sizes and deliver uniforms to schools on distribution days.

This year, in collaboration with our partner Dignitas, we hosted our first-ever Tailors’ Gathering to celebrate the achievements of the year, connect tailors, share our vision, and look ahead. Many tailors mentioned they had not realized there was such a large community of tailors involved. It was a great opportunity for them to meet others from different areas, exchange ideas, and discuss common goals, challenges, and opportunities.

Bringing the tailors together and listening to their journeys and highlights from the project was a powerful reminder of why working with them is so important. Our decision to work with local tailors is intentional and aligned with our mission. For many, our projects were the first large orders they ever received. These opportunities have allowed them to expand their businesses, purchase new equipment, and build confidence to take on more projects in the future. The impact has been profound—not only on the tailors themselves but also on their communities.

Below are some of the inspiring testimonials we received during the event:

The uniforms we provide to students carry stories that span from the dedicated tailors who make them; many of whom are women, to the children whose lives are transformed by receiving them. Every stitch is a symbol of growth, empowerment, and change. For many of the tailors, these projects have become much more than a job—they are a lifeline. Their work supports them, sustains their families and communities, creating a powerful ripple effect. Economic opportunity, particularly for women, reshapes entire communities. With each paycheck, these tailors are gaining independence, forging their own paths, and building brighter futures. What starts as a sewing project turns into something far greater: more children attending school, improved student outcomes, and economic growth for the tailors themselves. This is the true power of economic empowerment. It changes lives, one job at a time, one uniform at a time.
