Nigeria

A massive challenge Nigerian school children face is terrorism that is targeted directly at educational institutions. This obviously impacts access to education. Reports show that in northeast Nigeria between 2009 and 2022, more than 2,295 teachers were killed in attacks by insurgents which saw 19,000 people displaced and over 910 schools destroyed.

Our Challenge

“Nigeria’s educational system is in assorted crises of infrastructural decay, neglect, waste of resources and sordid conditions of service. The country has over 10 million out-of-school children. That’s the highest in the world. Another 27 million children in school are performing very poorly. Millions of Nigerians are half-educated, and over 60 million – or 30% – are illiterate.” – Omowumi Olabode Steven Ekundayo

Our Solution

We are partnering with Education Partners Nigeria to combat these numbers and keep children enrolled in school.

Nigeria faces significant challenges in its education sector, with approximately 10.5 million children aged 5-14 years not attending school, despite primary education being officially free and compulsory.
