Farewell Land of a Thousand Hills

Our last day in Rwanda was a sad one! It was visible on everyone’s faces that we didn’t want to leave. It hadn’t taken long for us to fall in love with the country and its people.

On our last day we toured Kigali. We first visited the Genocide Memorial. Despite others’ best attempts to prepare us for it, I don’t believe it is something you can be prepared to see and experience. At the center alone, over 250,000 bodies are buried in a mass grave. The pictures and stories depicted in the rooms inside are visuals we will never forget.

Later in the day we had lunch at a local restaurant and hit up one of the larger markets. Had to spend those last Rwandan francs somehow 🙂

The strength Rwandan women possess, both physically and emotionally, is truly amazing.
