Megan Kelly & Jessica Roy, Co-founders
After finishing business school at Boston College we knew we needed a new project, but this time we wanted to help others. In the spring of 2011 a friend of Megan’s casually mentioned the need for school uniforms in many developing countries. As someone who loves children and sews as a hobby, the desire to help solve this problem was instinctive. After alerting Jess, a new mom who has always worked with children, to the problem many families face, she was immediately on board. Within a few short days, schools in need were identified, and with that validation we began to build Tailored for Education.
As women who wore uniforms in school, we understand the positive effects proper school attire can have. It will impart a sense of self-worth and importance, traits that will likely lead these children to value their education even more and strive to have these opportunities available for their own children. In addition, children who receive an education have a much higher chance of breaking the preexisting poverty cycle prevalent in many developing countries today. |
